Today we are going to talk a little about How To Backlink Your Way To Success. You’ve probably spent a considerable amount of time and effort setting up your web site. Perhaps you went as far as hiring a design consultant to ensure that the site not only offers great information, but also a unique look. Now that you have the final version of your web site up and running, it’s time to draw a crowd of interested customers.

Fortunately, there is a simple, affordable and effective way to gain exposure for your web site. And it’s all about the backlinks.

Back in the “old” days of a couple of years ago, Search Engine Optimization (SEO) was all about keywords. Repeat the same phrase fifty times on your homepage and your site would pop up when that phrase was searched in Google. Thankfully for consumers and entrepreneurs alike, the search engines have wised up to such practices. With the creation of more detailed and precise algorithms, Google has come up with better ways to highlight the most relevant and trusted web sites.

Just Because You Build It…
Creating a beautiful web site with groundbreaking information does not guarantee high site traffic. Once the web site is ready to be unveiled to the public, it is time to begin a serious marketing campaign to attract the eyes and ears of interested consumers. The best way to get this kind of exposure is to rank high in the search engine results pages (SERPS), and the best way to climb in the SERPS is to build backlinks.

Backlinking to Your Site….
A “backlink” is a link from a web site that leads readers back to your web site. Sometimes it is a highlighted link in the middle of an article. In other cases, it may be the link in your Resource Box, at the end of an article you have written. When that article is distributed and published on other sites, the link leads readers back to your site.

The importance of backlinking can’t be over-emphasized. When a backlink to your web site from a popular and relevant site is created, Google tags a date to it, and records the actual phrase used in the link. Google then saves this information in order to establish rankings.

Getting the Most Out of Backlinks….
It’s important to understand that backlinking is more about quality than quantity. The search engines operate under the assumption that not all links hold equal weight, and a backlink (also known as an “inbound link“) from a highly popular or well known site has more clout than a link from your Uncle Ted’s garden photos

Here’s what Google has to say about how it uses backlinks to determine PageRank:

“PageRank relies on the uniquely democratic nature of the web by using its vast link structure as an indicator of an individual page’s value. In essence, Google interprets a link from page A to page B as a vote, by page A, for page B. But, Google looks at more than the sheer volume of votes, or links a page receives; it also analyzes the page that casts the vote. Votes cast by pages that are themselves ‘important’ weigh more heavily and help to make other pages ‘important’.”

So while having every member of your extended family create a link to your web site from their own sites might be a great way to keep Aunt Alice up to speed, it won’t get you much love from the search gods.

How to Get Other Sites to Link to Yours….
So you know how Google uses backlinks to come up with its search engine rankings. You also know that backlinks on popular, respected sites will boost your SERPS. Now the question is: how do I get those sites to link to my site?

Article marketing is an incredibly effective way to do this. When you create informative, unique content in the form of reprintable articles, web sites pay attention. Plenty of well-established web sites publish content from article marketing databanks, to constantly offer their site visitors fresh information. When one of these sites, or any of their visitors, publishes one of your articles, an automatic link back to your web site is included and voila! A backlink is born.

Distribute more and more articles around the Web, and you gain a steady stream of fresh, highly relevant backlinks over time. The search engines will notice, and you PageRank will go up. It’s that simple.

And higher search engine ranking means more eyeballs on your web site. Link simple.

Happy Backlinking,
Alan Hallmark

When I sat down to write about the need for rational, logical planning for your blog, what better model could I have found?

Sure, blogs are personal, emotional constructions. But if your blog isn’t performing the way you want it to, try using a little Vulcan logic to move it in the right direction.

1) Use Logic to Define Your Goals.

Blogging takes a significant amount of time and effort. So it’s only logical to define just what you want to get out of it.

Do you want to sell ebooks or other information products?

Build your service business?

Create stronger relationships with your customers?

Sell advertising?

You might be looking for some combination of those goals, which is fine, too. Your blogging goals can be modest or vast; narrowly defined or as amorphous as a Canarian amoeba. And your goals are likely to change over time.

The most important aspect of any goal is that you’ll know when you’ve achieved it. “Kick 10 light years of ass” is a Captain Kirk goal… inspiring, maybe, but not very logical or measurable. Make sure you take a Spock approach to at least some of your blogging goals. For example, you might want to generate 15 new leads and 2 conversions a month for your business.

2) Use Logic to develop a Plan of Action.

Once you’ve defined your goals, you need to look strategically at each component of your blog.

Are you trying to establish yourself as an authority so you can build your consulting business?

You might want to rethink posting that image of your spectacularly disorganized desk.

On the other hand, a few personal posts about your hobbies or your family life might be a very logical addition–they help potential clients feel they already know and like you.

Thinking about adding Feedburner stats to your sidebar? Wait until there’s a logical reason to do so–when your subscriber numbers are large enough to provide social proof that your blog is worth reading.

Look through your categories. Is there a logical connection between what you’re writing about and your blogging goals?

Your blogging tactics (frequency of posts, what you write about, your tone and style, the writing techniques you use) need to be in line with your goals. Anything else would be . . . illogical.

3) Use Logic to Measure Your Progress.

Now that your goals and tactics are aligned, logic demands that you measure your progress. Spock was the Enterprise’s science officer, always ready to quantify his observations to the last decimal point.

If your goal is to sell information products and you’re making two $29 sales a month, your tactics aren’t working efficiently yet.

A hard analytical look at your results will help you determine how to improve.

You may need more traffic,

You may need to boost your authority and credibility.

You may need to improve your conversion with better sales techniques.

Of course, Copyblogger is the logical resource to help you with any of those.

4) Use Emotion to Create Fascinating Content.

Mr. Spock is, as every fan knows, half human. The show’s screenwriters contrived to put him into embarrassingly illogical positions at every possible opportunity. The mix of emotion and logic made the character much more fun to watch.

It takes more than logic to be a great blogger (or Starfleet officer). Without that spark of passion and emotional intelligence, your content will be cold and you won’t make the connections that lead to success and satisfaction.

So go ahead, make the most of your emotional human side. But try a little green-blooded Vulcan logic, too. You’ll see your blog live long and prosper.

Want links? Google says be interesting

Google’s Maile Ohye concluded Link Week with a tutorial on inbound links. It says basically what SEO experts have been saying for years: content and inbound links are most important, and in that order.

Just because it’s old news doesn’t mean it’s bad news. Google’s had a real history of silence on the SEO side of things, and experts were often left to theorize and test—and worse, try to game. Google sent a pretty loud signal this time last year by hitting the PageRanks of paid directories, a move seeming to confirm basic white-hat SEO tactics.

In her post, Ohye extols the virtues of naturally gained, editorial inbound links and directly denounces links appear “spammy,” or not “merit-based.”

“One of the strongest ranking factors is my site’s content. Additionally, perhaps my site is also linked from three sources — however, one inbound link is from a spammy site. As far as Google is concerned, we want only the two quality inbound links to contribute to the PageRank signal in our ranking.

“Given the user’s query, over 200 signals (including the analysis of the site’s content and inbound links as mentioned above) are applied to return the most relevant results to the user.”

Ohye then offered four bullet points on how to earn merit-based links, paraphrased below:

  • Start a site-related blog, writing or video, research or entertainment.
  • Be interesting. Be a teacher. (Hey, that should be a recruitment slogan for a College of Education somewhere! I’ll sell it to ya for the bargain price of $500,000—if a private school, just $10,000, since as a non-government institution you can’t just print the money you need.)
  • Participate in the community surrounding your industry—social media, blog comments, user reviews.
  • Provide useful products or services.

In short: content, content, content, a little participation, and the links will come.

You may already know all of the various traffic generation basics, but still find that your site still isn’t getting the amount of traffic that it deserves. This could be happening for a variety of reasons, and it is important to find out what those reasons are and make the necessary corrections.

The first thing to consider is what you are currently doing in terms of marketing. Are you actually using the traffic generation basics to get traffic? Do you even have a marketing plan? Marketing can be very time consuming, but if you want traffic, it is necessary. The days of ‘build it and they will come’ are over. There are billions of websites in existence, and unless you tell them you’ve built it, they aren’t coming! Don’t wait for them to come – go out and drag them in!

If you do have a marketing plan, and you actually are using the traffic generation basics, and you still aren’t getting the traffic, take a look at your marketing materials. Your signature files, your short ads, your solo ads, your PPC campaign text, and everything else you use in your traffic generation endeavors should be located in one file. Take a long look at it all. Maybe your words aren’t working.

Are you allowing enough time to employ your marketing plan each week? As much as 90% of your working hours should be spent marketing your website and generating traffic. Most successful Internet Marketers make sure that they are working enough hours, and putting in the marketing time needed to make the income that they desire. Are you doing this? If not, you need to take a look at your schedule and make some changes.

If you are involved in joint venture deals, and you aren’t getting traffic, that is a real problem. It is time to take a look at those deals and see if you are in fact benefiting from them. If not, maybe it is time to find new JV partners who can get you the traffic that you need. It may also be a simple question of reworking an existing deal that you have with your current JV partners.

Take a look at your links as well. Do this by looking at your website statistics. Are the sites that are linking to you sending you any traffic? If not, you need to start a new linking campaign that will enable you to find sites that will send you the traffic you need. What about the forums that you are posting in? Are they as active as they once were? Start searching for new communities to hang out in to employ some traffic generation basics.

Take a long hard look at your marketing plan, and note what is working and what is not working. Try to determine what the problem is with the marketing actions that are not working, and do a little research to determine ways that you can improve what is working. If you don’t have a written marketing plan, now is the time to make one. You should write down what you are marketing, how you will market it, the marketing materials that you will use, and the amount of time you will spend on each marketing task each day or week.

Traffic is everything. If you’ve tried everything that you can think of and nothing is working to your satisfaction, maybe it is time to bring in some hired guns for traffic generation basics. Visit http://www.TheInternetEntrepreneursClub.com to find more information on getting the help that you need right away! Traffic generation is an ongoing process. There is no end in site. Think about the big sites like Yahoo – even Yahoo still uses traffic generation basics!

Blogging is one of the best ways to share information as well as advertise yourself on today’s Internet, but are you doing everything you can to make sure that you put yourself out there? As many bloggers are finding out, putting out a blog that has good information simply is not enough; advertising is an important part of any endeavor on the web. Luckily, you will find that the Internet is a great place to see viral marketing in action. Digg.com, a site that many bloggers have begun using, is one example of this.

At first glance, Digg.com seems to be a lot of information stored in one place, but with a second look will actually show you how organized it is. The search function is particularly useful, and the range of topics, images, and information that it covers is rather exhaustive. From learning about mountain bikes to hearing the latest news out of Washington, this is one of the best sites that you can frequent, especially when you are looking for a diverse field of information.

At its most basic, Digg.com is a sharing site. People will post things that they find interesting online, and no matter how obscure or how important it is, you will be able to find it here. Digg.com is one of many social bookmarking sites that have appeared, and there is a good reason for that. Despite its invaluable presence and despite its admitted scope and staying power, many people are becoming impatient with the results that come from a simple Google search. People are looking for relevance when they look for information, and nearly the only way to get that is by looking through material that has already been gone through for relevance by other people.

On Digg.com, you start contributing as soon as you sign up, and something that might surprise you is the level of community on this site. This is one great way for people to get to know one another, and it is a great way for you to get information about your blog out there. Many blogs end up being linked by other people, and you will find that this improves your link building status; your links will not only be out there, they will also be contributing to your Google search engine rankings.

As any marketer will tell you, part of the key to success to marketing online is to give people content, and with Digg.com, you can do exactly that. Take some time and look at the content you have simply bookmarked for your purposes. Similarly, many bloggers have a list of links on their sidebar, you can get started just by putting that up. Reach out and make sure that the members of your Internet community know that you exist!

 Happy Blogging,

There is nothing better than making m.oney off of selling someone else’s products. Internet based affiliate marketing involves you joining a businesses program and selling their products. For every sell you make, you earn a certain amount of commission for the sell.  While it is a fairly simple concept, there are some things you can do to increase your chances of having success.

When getting online you will notice there are thousands of affiliate programs you can join.  A mistake many people make is joining far too many programs while trying to have success in all of them.

It is perfectly fine to join a few programs, but any more just becomes a pain and can actually be detrimental to your business. The reason for this is because there is just too much to do in order to have success with each program.  You have to look at each program as if it is a business of yours.

This means you have to research the product and become familiarized with it, know who to target for marketing purposes, and understand the best ways to reach your target market. After looking through all of your options, create a list of the programs you would possibly like to join.  Next, try to narrow your list down to the programs that are related to your business if you have one. Nobody wants to see a gardening link on your entertainment web site.  You are far more likely to succeed with a program that is related to your content.

Next, look at the com.mission rate for each of the programs in relation to the company.  There are too many affiliate programs for you to just settle for a 20% com.mission. You should be earning at least 30% or higher for all of your sales.  This will give you more motivation to work harder.

As soon as you have narrowed your list down to a few, join each program and start to promote them extensively.  This means posting in forums, writing articles and submitting them to article directories, and talk about them on your web site. The more people recognize the programs the better chance you have of succeeding.

On your web site itself, make sure the programs are clearly visible.  Try to avoid placing banners or links to the program within a clutter of other graphics.  The easier it is for people to see the better off you are.

Affiliate marketing has been around for years and people continue to make lots of m.oney today.  It is an easy way to make m.oney on the Internet, but with a few mistakes you can quickly fail.  By following the tips in this article you will increase your chances of having success with affiliate marketing.

Wishing you success,

Yes! Security is one of the key factors in affiliate marketing. If you do not adopt proper security measures, then your business will be at high risk. One of the most important way to restore security is to protect your affiliate links. Do not take them for granted. A bit of carelessness on your part in regards to affiliate links may cost you a lot of dollars.

Do you know the long complicated links that you send to your prospective customers not only look convoluted but they can create a lot of problems too! If you send such an affiliate link to your customers, then the smart ones will definitely figure out that you are promoting someone else’s product and they would rather visit the parent company. Also, if your link does not function then your customers have to type a really long URL into the browser, which will definitely put him or her off.

You could be a victim of even a worse situation. What if some devious Internet pirates steal your affiliate links and replace them with theirs. If they do that, then you get no commission at all.

Did I scare you off with all of the above possibilities? Well, that certainly wasn’t my intention. I just wanted to open your eyes and state facts that actually happen in the world of Internet. It happened with me until I came across ViralURL , that brought a revolution to my online ventures.

In order to avoid such a rip off, ViralURL gives you full protection and sees to it that your affiliate links never get exposed to others.

So save yourself from getting ripped. Get all the commissions to your account that you rightfully deserve. All this is made possible by ViralURL.com
